Hong Kong timeline- signs of the times

At lunch with good friend and local guide Patrick, something about the table setting seems odd... two sets of chopsticks. Our host explains: white for personal use, black to pickup food from communal plates. A legacy of SARS and Avian Flu, the practice has been trending for sometime now, he says. 


Hong Kong. The skies are murkier.


And the harbour is narrower.


Still, Hong Kong remains the place to celebrate the good things in life. 

Like marathons. This year's enrollment: 73,000.



And brunch at Alfie's, supremely low-key,  but glossy and mirrored, and kitted out in leather and tweed. 



And champagne at the Grand Club, happily still in place on the Grand Hyatt's 30th floor until it closes for a grand refit.


And all around, the pretty bauhinia, the Orchid Tree of Hong Kong, in full splendor.

Twice relapsed, twice shy

After two relapses, I'm staying put. Completely immobile. And I'm eating what I like. Carbs. Rice bread pasta everything! And TimTams. And M&Ms.

I was sent this by the hotel so maybe it's better for me? 


I think not. Back to my own prescription...



There's a full moon tonight... I'm staying out here until the moon comes up behind the opera house.
