Singapore

Lunch. Shopping. Cocktails. Party party party!

I'm not complaining but there must be something more to this place!

I recently wrote a friend:
"Still in Singapore until weekend. The view from my hotel window is nothing short of magnificent. Laid out before me is everything this over-achieving country is so proud of.

Thing is, it doesn't do anything for me. I find it hard to get excited about a place whose people are reportedly anti-Filipino. It may not even be true; and even if true the sentiment is limited to a small minority. But this minority is a vociferously intimidating, belligerent minority. In social media, that is. It's said that this unfortunate xenophobic turn is merely a swipe at an increasingly unpopular ruling party- Lee Kwan Yew's party. Seems silly to even talk of any other party in this dynastic quasi-monarchy but the formerly docile Singaporean is trying out a newly emerging voice. Mr Lee has left the building though and it would be interesting to see what happens next.

Looking forward to a dinner party this evening. Mostly expat Filipinos and their multiracial families."

Needless to say, the evening was an unqualified success, as evenings at Tom and Lorna's always are.

Is it more fun in the Philippines? Truth of the matter is: Filipinas have more fun. Wherever they are.

Makati

At Blind Pig, the girls were disappointed.
Sorry, they can't make Annette a frozen margarita. And sorry, they only use the classic cocktail glasses; not the modern flared martini glasses that Avin and Laura came here for.

They've never had martinis before and only wanted them as props for a photo shoot. Shoot!

Never mind, we had fun anyway. And the bartender taught us how to make martinis. Plus, he was cute.

Laura's martini:
2 oz Tanqueray
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
3 olives, lemon twist (as per request)

Avin's martini:
Dry Vermouth
3 olives, lemon twist (as per request)

Alice's vodka martini:
2.5 oz 42 Below
0.5 oz Dry Vermouth
3 olives, lemon twist (as per request)

Annette's margarita:
Classic, made with 1800 Tequila.
