Singapore: the haze


Last night we went to see Saturday Night Fever at the Marina Bay Sands. Brandon Rubendall as "Tony Manero" carried the entire show on his sexy shoulders, all by his fabulous self. 

The girls came for drinks at the Conrad before the show and then afterwards we went to Altitude at the top of One Raffles Place. 

Two successive lifts took us up to the 62nd floor, up a flight of stairs, and right onto the open air rooftop where the view should've been fantastic, normally. Alas, there was no view; thanks to this dreaded recurrent plague from the burning fields of Indonesia: the haze.

Still, there was a tightly packed crowd of determined late-nighters who seemed strangely oblivious to the sinister semi-solid air that engulfed them. All around, strategically placed giant fans struggled to make a dent in it but to no avail. Above us, the recently full Blood Moon flickered ineffectually.

We didn't stay. Frustrated, we elected to call it a day. Singapore's bright lights have been dimmed.



I stayed indoors all day today. But even now, inside the hotel, I can taste this sick smelly air on my tongue. There's something niggling the back of my throat, my eyes are tearing, and my nose is runny. For some reason I feel like I'm inside a drum...and a tuning fork  keeps pinging in my ear...
